Paris Saint-Germain Crowned Champions League Winners, Complete Historic Sextuple
French club Paris Saint-Germain clinched their first-ever UEFA Champions League title on May 31, 2025, defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final match. This victory brought an end to a 14-year wait for the Parisian club.
This triumph was part of a "historic" sextuple achieved by the club in 2025, which also included the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, UEFA Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup after facing Flamengo. Coach Luis Enrique described the year as "historic," noting that the team's success followed a project redirection in the summer of 2024, with the thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Manchester City on January 22 considered a key turning point.
In this regard, Javier Bordas, former director of Barcelona, stated: "In 2009, we were the best. Today, Paris Saint-Germain is the best. Luis Enrique has done an incredible job." An agent added: "Paris Saint-Germain had the image of a team that gives up, but this coronation has changed everything."
Throughout 2025, Paris Saint-Germain played 67 matches, securing 50 victories and scoring 178 goals, marking the best record among Europe's major leagues. A club source told French newspaper L'Equipe: "We must continue to win to get closer to those clubs. This is normal; we are a newer club. This is our challenge: to maintain this momentum and win as many titles as possible. This Paris Saint-Germain has the potential to win three or four more Champions League titles within ten years."
Notably, the team's average age of 24 years and 138 days made them the second-youngest team to win the Champions League. Eight academy players, including Warren Zaïre-Emery, either participated or made their debut, contributing 19% of the team's total playing minutes.
