Endrick Joins Lyon on Six-Month Loan
Young Brazilian forward Endrick, 19, has completed his move to French club Olympique Lyon on a dry loan from Spanish giants Real Madrid. The agreement is for six months, effective from January 1st, and does not include a purchase option, ensuring his return to Real Madrid after the loan period.
This strategic move aims to provide crucial playing time and competitive responsibility for Endrick, who featured in only 3 matches (99 minutes, one start) for Real Madrid during the first half of the season. Under the agreement, Olympique Lyon will cover 50% of the player's salary and must commit to a minimum number of games and minutes played by Endrick, or provide compensation if these conditions are not met.
Olympique Lyon coach Paulo Fonseca plans to make Endrick a key starter and an attacking focal point for the team in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League. Endrick had a phone conversation with Fonseca last November, stating he was “enticed by their style of play” and “the coach's approach and footballing philosophy.” Lyon's sporting director, Mathieu Louis-Jean, initiated contact with the player in October.
Endrick is expected to make his debut on January 11 against Lille in the Coupe de France Round of 16. He will miss Lyon's Ligue 1 match against Monaco on January 3 due to a contract verification period by the DNCG (National Directorate of Management Control). This transfer is considered vital for the player's development and his ambitions for the 2026 World Cup.
