Girona Nears Rubén Blanco Signing as Ter Stegen Replacement
Media reports indicate that Girona FC has reached an agreement to sign goalkeeper Rubén Blanco until the end of the current season. This move comes to compensate for the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen, who is expected to be sidelined for at least two months after undergoing surgery.
Blanco has been a free agent since last January after mutually terminating his contract with Olympique Marseille. Meanwhile, Ter Stegen is suffering from a hamstring injury and is not expected to return to action before April at the earliest.
Blanco's arrival as a new Girona player is expected to be confirmed in the coming days. The Spanish goalkeeper will compete with Paulo Gazzaniga for the starting goalkeeper spot in coach Míchel Sánchez's lineup, especially after Ter Stegen had displaced Gazzaniga from the starting XI in the last two matches before his injury.
Ter Stegen had joined Girona from Barcelona during the last winter transfer window. Gazzaniga was the only other available option in goal for the team before the signing of Blanco.
