Disciplinary Committee Suspends Sevilla Player Marcao for Six Matches
The Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation has announced severe sanctions against Sevilla FC following their match against Real Madrid on December 21.
The sanctions include a six-match suspension for defender Marcao. One match of the suspension was for receiving two yellow cards and being sent off, while an additional four matches were for directing insults, offensive language, and hostile behavior towards the referee.
A sixth match was added to his suspension due to conduct violating good sporting order. After his expulsion, Marcao confronted the referee in a threatening manner, which required intervention, and he uttered offensive remarks and kicked the ball.
The committee rejected Sevilla's appeal, which claimed the phrase was merely a common Portuguese expression, affirming the validity of the referee's report. In the same context, coach Matías Almeyda was suspended for one match after receiving two yellow cards and being sent off in the same fixture.
