Michelle Agyemang: Early Brilliance and Impactful Injury

26 December 2025at05:35

Eighteen-year-old Michelle Agyemang signed her first professional contract with English club Arsenal in May 2024, before making her senior England debut on April 8, 2025.

Agyemang shone in her international debut, scoring just 41 seconds after coming on as a substitute in England's 3-2 victory over Belgium in Leuven. Commenting on her performance, coach Sarina Wiegman stated: "She was brilliant, she came on and played with great confidence in the last ten minutes. Her composure and control were truly amazing. We definitely have to congratulate her on that."

Agyemang played a crucial role in England's Euro 2025 triumph in Switzerland, netting the equaliser against Sweden in the quarter-finals (2-2, 3-2 on penalties) and another goal against Italy in the semi-finals. After England secured their second consecutive European title, she was awarded the tournament's Young Player of the Tournament.

Regarding her impact, Ellen White commented: "She plays with impressive maturity and has been absolutely exceptional. Despite limited playing time, she has rewritten England's history."

However, Agyemang's promising career suffered an unfortunate setback in October 2025, when she sustained a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during an England friendly match against Australia, which England won 3-0.
