McTominay Shines at Napoli, Securing Titles After Manchester United Departure
The year 2025 saw an exceptional performance from Scott McTominay following his move to Italian club Napoli from English side Manchester United in August 2024, in a deal worth approximately €30 million. McTominay quickly became an integral part of Napoli's 4-3-3 formation, contributing 12 goals and four assists, which helped the team secure the Serie A title for the 2024-2025 season.
McTominay's achievements did not stop there; Napoli also won the Supercoppa Italiana in 2025, defeating Bologna 2-0 on December 22. The player received significant individual recognition, being named Serie A Player of the Season. On the international stage, McTominay shone for Scotland, scoring a superb goal against Denmark to help his country qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup.
In a statement to CBS Sports, McTominay said: "This is legendary. It's very easy to blame Manchester United. In my last season there, I played well. I scored 10 goals and we won a title."
Commenting on the player's departure, Nemanja Matic stated: "My opinion is that Manchester United made a mistake by selling Scott McTominay." Meanwhile, coach Antonio Conte added: "Everyone is now talking about Hojlund and McTominay... but they weren't playing at Manchester United. There must be a reason, right?"
