Real Madrid Ignores Alonso's Wish to Keep Modric
Real Madrid's new coach, Xabi Alonso, faced a decision from the club that contradicted his wishes even before his summer arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
It was announced that Luka Modric would depart Real Madrid after twelve trophy-laden years, having been a rotation option under former coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Spanish newspaper "El Mundo" revealed that Modric had desired to stay and even offered to take a pay cut. Alonso, his former teammate, also wished for Modric to remain at the club.
However, the club firmly rejected Alonso's request, preferring instead to rely on younger midfield talents such as Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, and Arda Güler.
Since then, Real Madrid has struggled, particularly in midfield, missing Modric's experience and leadership. Modric is currently enjoying a thriving performance with Italian club AC Milan.
