Luis, Alfaro, and Costas Vie for America's Best Coach Award
The final list of nominees for the "Best Coach in America" award has been announced, based on the "America Responds to El País" survey. Three prominent coaches are competing for this prestigious title.
The final list includes Brazilian coach Felipe Luis, who led his team Flamengo to a double achievement, winning both the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian League.
He is challenged by Argentine coach Gustavo Costas, who successfully guided Racing Club to the Recopa Sudamericana title, reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, and was a runner-up in the Argentine League (Clausura) final.
The third nominee is Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro, who led the Paraguay national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, achieving six wins, five draws, and only one defeat in twelve qualifying matches since taking charge in August 2024.
The Uruguayan newspaper "El País" will announce the winner of the award on December 31, alongside the "King of America" award for the best player. Fernando Diniz previously won this award in 2023, and Artur Jorge in 2024.
